Oscar Taylor Gensaw, Sr., a member of the Yurok Tribe, died May 3, 2007, at his home in Klamath at the age of 71. He was born June 9, 1935, in Requa.

He was a logger for 36 years, a fish guide for tourists in the early years on the Klamath River. Mr. Gensaw, as I knew him, was my brother Adam’s boxing coach.

Everlasting Day

I am growing old now
Grey and stiff each day
Lost in life called living.
It is all I can do for me
To rise with the break of day
And live the life I am given.
Sorrow comes, happiness too
For that final, everlasting day
When I can rest and rise to Heaven.
